Traveling with Erectile Dysfunction
Aug 25
Travelers who are in need of prescription medications can often face
precarious circumstances. It can serve the traveler a great benefit
and perhaps save him a great deal of grief if he learns heeds the
advice of other road warriors. One of these globetrotters has shared
with us details about treating erectile dysfunction while traversing
several continents.
In the United States, treatments and medications for impotence require
a prescription. The brands available include Viagra (Pfizer), Cialis
(Lilly), and Levitra (Bayer). Some herbal products are available,
but none of them are recognized as effective treatments by the FDA
(Food and Drug Administration). If you are a foreign national
traveling to the United States for an extended stay you will find it
much easier to get an American prescription from an American doctor to
obtain your prescription meds. Most pharmacies in the United States
do not honor foreign prescriptions by foreign doctors. Further, it is
not advisable for travelers to purchases controlled prescription drugs
on the street, craigslist, or any other black market.
Americans traveling abroad will find that erectile dysfunction
medications include a much wider variety of products than the three
available at home. In the U.K. and India, among others, there are
dozens of impotence treatment drugs, like Generic Viagra, available to the public. These
drugs are approved by each country’s national governing body that
oversees medications and drugs; the equivalent of U.S.’s FDA. While
dozens of products may be found in the pharmacies of these foreign
countries, they all contain the same active ingredients as Viagra
(Sildenafil Citrate), Cialis (Tadalafil), or Levitra (Vardenafil).
Some of these products have candy flavors, are available in soft chew,
or are available in a liquid dose.
These products are just as effective as their American counterparts,
but they are often offered as one-tenth of the price. Americans
wanting this wide variety of options and products will have to wait
until 2011-2012 when the patent protections which had grant Pfizer,
Lilly USA and Bayer the exclusive rights to manufacturer their
products expires. At that time, other manufacturers will be able to
provide U.S. customers with their generic versions of Viagra, Cialis,
or Levitra.
